Cuche is the reigning World Cup downhill season champion. He competes in the downhill and Super-G disciplines. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, he was the silver medalist in the Super-G, where he had the exact same time as Austrian Hans Knauss resulting in a rare sharing of the medal.

Cuche has eight World Cup victories, including two at the famous Hahnenkamm downhill race in Kitzbuhek, Austria. In 2008, he finished five points ahead of Bode Miller
