Neglect Not Your Equipment

With winter storms preparing to unleash their welcome fury on mountains throughout the West this weekend, there’s an awakening happening among the army of skiers and boarders.  Like Richard Dreyfuss in Close Encounters, an oncoming winter storm inherently and uncontrollably drives many of us to a specific mountain.  Richard did not need much for his trip, but you and I need our skis and snowboard.  After a summer of neglect, it’s time to check the condition of your equipment.  “It’s been busy for the last couple of days,” said Craig Clark, owner of Clark’s Snowsports in Rancho Cordova, California.  Simple upkeep of your equipment is necessary as a preventative-type care.  Unlike other types of preventative care (think dentistry), keeping your skis and snowboard in good shape is relatively cheap.  Ten bucks will get you a fresh wax job, and a full tune on your equipment costs around 35-40 bucks.  Of course, you can always arm yourself with the necessary tools to learn the tricks of the trade.  Love your equipment, and it will love you in return!
