Winter Storm Alert: Mammoth Mountain

Posted By: Zeke Piestrup on January 22, 2009 2:00 pm

Fourteen inches of fresh snow in the past 24 hours have fallen on Mammoth Mountain.  Even though forecasters called for less than a 50% chance of snow, we knew better.  Mammoth must have storm cloud magnets buried just beneath the surface.  Clouds don’t roll past Mammoth, they park and find other precipitation buddies to join the party.  For the storm cloud, Mammoth is not a way-station, it’s the destination.  The Storm Train has once again parked itself at Mammoth  This latest gift from Mother Nature will continue through Tuesday of next week.  Dave’s Run, Scotty’s, backside hikes up to Hemlocks, Avi chutes off of chair 22, Dragon’s Back down to Chair 9, all receiving free coats of snow!  Rejoice for winter has returned to the West.
