Vonn Wins World Cup Super G and Downhill Title

It’s official: Lindsey Vonn is officially the queen of the hill. With another World Cup super G gold medal (her fourth consecutive win in the discipline), she’s now just 15 points away from notching the overall title in that event. Vonn already clinched the downhill title with her silver medal yesterday, and with a lead of 391 points over super pal, Germany’s Maria Riesch, she’s on her way to another World Cup Overall crown.

“I really wanted to have a win in Bansko," said Vonn. "Really the fans have been incredible and today was a great end to the weekend. I was able to secure the downhill globe, I made good points for the overall and I’m right in there for the super G title now.”

Vonn’s impeccable turns created nothing less than a smokeshow, and she bested runner up Fabienne Suter, of Switzerland by over half a second, with a time of 1:14.49. Tina Maze of Slovenia took the bronze in 1:15:40 seconds. Teammate Julia Mancuso was the next best American, in 16th.

"What she’s doing right now is pretty amazing," said U.S. Ski Team speed Head Coach Alex Hoedlmoser of Vonn. "We started this run in Garmisch when I set the course and she won. Since then she’s had an incredible amount of confidence in super G. With Lindsey, that’s all it takes."

Perhaps most incredible is that Vonn is currently ranked in the top 10 in all World Cup alpine disciplines, and her 20th World Cup win Sunday makes her the winningest women’s ski racer in American history.
