The Outdoor Retailer show is a force in itself—a giant exhibition of the latest and not-yet-released gear, clothing and trends. Today the OR organizers selected students from leading design schools to compete in the third cycle of “Project OR,” a 48-hour concept-to-prototype student design competition meant to inspire innovative summer outdoor fashions and highlight Outdoor Retailer’s supplier exhibitors. The contestants will show what they’ve got at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, July 21-24, 2009.

The talented competitors are: Jeanne Lynn Douglass, Cornell University; Natalie Haddox, Art Institute of California, San Francisco; Wildrose Hamilton, Colorado State University; Johana Martinez, California State University, Los Angeles; Lindsey Schuyler, Florida State University.

“We have selected some of the most talented design students in the country to compete in this summer’s Project OR,” said Kenji Haroutunian, Outdoor Retailer show director. “It’s our hope that the contestants’ varied niches and backgrounds will lead them to create fresh concepts that will help them grow as designers and offer the entire industry a new perspective on outdoor design. We are eager to see innovation in outdoor fashion continue during the third cycle of Project OR.”
