Picabo Street Among Olympic Hall of Fame Finalists

The U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame was established in 1983.  Since that time, only two skiers have been inducted.  Phil Mahre and adaptive skier Diana Golden-Brosnihan.  Only two!

Well hopefully that will soon change, as Picabo Street, the greatest American woman speed skier before anybody was named Lindsey Vonn, is one of 15 finalists.  A Sun Valley native, Picabo Street was a dominant force in alpine ski racing throughout the 1990s.  She’s a three time Olympian, winning super G gold at the ’98 Games in Nagano and a silver in downhill at the ’94 Games.  Street also medaled in three World Championships.

“It’s a huge honor and I was very flattered.  The nomination was kind of a flashback for me,” said Street. “I’ve spent the last couple of days reminiscing about what I’ve accomplished. When you’re a mom, as I am now, you spend so much time trying to make sure your kids have what they need and you put yourself on the back burner. It’s been nice to think about that again and feel good about myself and what I’ve accomplished in my life.”

You can help out Picabo’s cause by voting for her here. Wonder how many times Julia Mancuso will be clicking to vote for Picabo?
