INSTANT CARNAGE! Must-See Footage of Big Sky’s Pond Skim

Squaw Valley may have started the pond skim tradition, but Big Sky has made it truly punk rock.  The Montana resort has dipped their creative brains in the freezing waters to come up with some outrageously designed ponds.  Last year there was the curve in the middle and prior to that a giant volcano stood watch over the competition.  Everyone waited in anticipation for what the Big Sky braintrust would come up with for this year’s Big Sky Pond Skim.

The Big Sky Pond skim has become visual candy gobbled up by all the major networks.  “This event has attracted national notoriety,” says PR marketing guru Dax Schieffer.  Carnage from The Big Sky Pond Skim has been featured on NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, “and most recently on a Television show following the Super Bowl!”

Plans were kept under raps, with only high-ranking Big Sky execs privy to the plans.  What was known by all was this year’s costume theme of beach and island wear.  On Saturday, April 11, Top Secret clearance was removed as the crowd of thousands descended on the base of Big Sky to witness a double-pond-bump-in-the-middle-with-drop-down.  It was a beyond-challenging layout that ensured major falls and splashes of brilliance.

Not since Warren Miller’s Spills & Thrills has video footage conjured up such large involuntary cries of laughter and pain.  Special props go to Glen Plake for his retro-ballet skiing moves and barrel roll.

Stop what you are doing right now, and check the footage of Big Sky’s Pond Skim (below).  Something this fantastic can’t remain legal for long…
