Sometimes a locker room can smell good. Well, when it’s brand spanking new! Such is the case with the U.S. Ski Team’s new training hub: The Center of Excellence is open for business.

USSA exec’s have moved in to their new office digs, which overlook the Ski Team’s fitness facilities, and even the weight machines are a sight to behold. Each piece of equipment is stamped with the Ski Team logo.

State-of-the-art amenities include an indoor quarter pipe, a skate track, complete gymnasium, a sports medicine and recovery area with hot and cold pools, a nutrition center… You name it, and the COE’s got it. And of course, there are huge, panoramic views of the Park City mountains and landscape (with a solid barbecue deck to match).

Athletes like Ted Ligety and Julia Mancuso have already rolled in for training, as have several others. “It’s probably the nicest gym I have ever been to,” Mancuso said. “I think it’s awesome.”

“Basically we have absolutely everything we need here,” added Freestyle aerialist Emily Cook. “The recovery center is absolutely amazing, the testing facilities are incredible and the physical therapy section is perfect. I think it’s going to motivate everyone a little extra.”

And that’s exactly what the U.S. Ski Team officials were hoping for: That extra spark to light the fire and desire for medals heading into the Olympic year—and of course for many more to come.
