They’re called the Golden Eagle Awards and each year they’re handed out at the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) to ski resorts for Overall Environmental Excellence.

The Ski Channel was on hand at the NSAA on Marco Island in Florida for the awards.  Grand Targhee was honored for being the founding member of The Climate Registry, a North American greenhouse gas inventory regulator.  The Wyoming resort has aggressively reduced its greenhouse gasses, a staggering 166 metric tons along in 2008.

Clif Bar sponsors the award and Ricardo Balazs of Clif Bar commented, “”We’re pleased to be part of the ski industry’s ongoing efforts to fight climate change and help save our snow.  The incredible work being done on the part of this year’s applicants will hopefully inspire others to take action and protect the places where we play.”
