According to a new study, cutting your daily caloric intake by 30 percent may result in a longer life.  These results come from a 20-year study of monkeys.  The primates on the calorie-restricted diet had a 24% greater chance of living longer than those that were not on the diet.

Along with watching what you eat, exercise is very important to control your calories.  And that’s where we here at The Ski Channel come in to help! After a full day on the mountain when your legs are hurting, have you wondered how many calories you burned while skiing? Downhill skiing and cross-country skiing are amazing ways to burn calories, not to mention all the fun you have while doing them!  According to nutristrategy.com, a 130 lb person will burn 354 calories in one hour of moderate downhill skiing, while a 190 lb person will burn 518 calories! Cross-country skiing is an even better workout- an hour of moderate cross country skiing burns 472 calories in a 130 lb adult and an astonishing 690 calories for a 190 lb adult.

So what does this all mean? Put down the Twinkie or piece of pizza, strap on your boots and skis, and hit your favorite run! You will not only have fun, but you will also give yourself a chance to live a longer and healthier life–not to mention the fact that you’ll have more time to enjoy The Ski Channel
