World Champion Mountain Bike Racer Rebecca Rusch Testing 2010 Gear at Snowbird

World Champion mountain bike and adventure racer Rebecca Rusch is currently gracing Snowbird with her mad skills. (And testing next year’s gear.) But here’s why we love her:

Since turning pro in 2001, Rusch has become a regular winner on the adventure racing circuit, which has taken her to places as far flung as Kyrgyzstan and Tibet. She even tackled (and dominated) the Raid Gauloises. A little later, Rusch added 24 Hour Solo Mountain Bike racing to her roster, and is now a two-time World Champion.

It all started when Rusch moved to California from the flatlands of Illinois to pursue rock climbing. She soon racked up ascents like Yosemite and Zion. Next, Rusch took to paddling, and quickly rose up the ranks, even completing the infamously tough Molokai crossing. Adventure Racing soon followed, and as you might expect from this remarkable athlete, Rusch won her first major race—a qualifier for the Australian Eco-challenge. “The rest is history,” she says.
