Terrell Owens bails, Bode Miller tanks, while Kristi Leskinen & Maksim Chmerkovskiy dominate on the Superstars

The drama was back on the Superstars last night as Terrell Owens withdrew from the show to fulfill obligations to the Buffalo Bills football team. No big loss here from a competition standpoint since the team of T.O. and Joanna Krupa were the first team to be eliminated on week one anyway then later resurrected when Jennifer Capriati had to pull out due to injuries. This may be a downer on the ratings side though since Terrell has a big following. So Jeff Kent and Ali Landry were brought back from elimination last week.

Frankly, ABC needs to break this elimination mode of thinking. The format and drama smells too much like their other shows Dancing with The Stars and The Bachelor/Bachelorette. They would get much better ratings if all the teams competed in all the events with the winner being decided by points accumulated or the final obstacle course event as in years past. Bring back the old format. Now on to the competition.

The first event was the running relay with some strange insignificant twist. Once again the producers of the Superstars are forcing creativity where none is needed. Just run the traditional events that everyone understands. It’s more fun for the viewers. Team Kristi Leskinen and Maksim Chmerkovskiy won the event while team Brandi Chastain and Julio Iglesias Jr. finished second. Bode Miller and Paige Hemmis tanked the event finishing last on purpose. This was strategy of course for Bode and Paige saving themselves for the next event figuring they could not win the relay race. It’s more like a lack of competitiveness or pure genius. Can’t wait to watch Bode compete in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Bowling was the next event and it sure put some egg in the faces of Bode and Paige. You guys were saving yourselves for bowling? Brandi and Julio won the event while Kristi and Maks took second. The rubber match was won by Bode & Paige beating out Lisa Leslie & David Charvet.

On to the obstacle course elimination event where this week the teams would have to win best 2 out of 3 heats. Lisa & David prevailed thus eliminating Jeff & Ali.

Our favorite in this event, Kristi Leskinen & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, are dominating along with Brandi Chastain & Julio Iglesias Jr. They’re probably going to be the final two teams unless Bode Miller and Paige Hemmis can step up their game. A win by Kristi and Maks would be a windfall for the ABC network as they are staples on ESPN X Games and Dancing with The Stars respectively. And as mentioned last week, don’t be surprised if Kristi becomes Maks’ dance partner on the next season of DWTS.
