One of the most visited mountain attractions in Canada turns 50 this weekend.  On July 18th, 1959, the Sulphur Mountain gondola officially opened, and Saturday will mark a historic landmark for the now-called Banff Gondola. The gondola was the first in Canada, and also the first bi-cable gondola in North America.  Part of the celebration includes offering free admission to visitors born in 1959.

The Banff Gondola takes eight minutes to journey to the summit of Sulphur Mountain, which is almost 7,500 feet above sea level.  There are several attractions to do once off the gondola.  One of the biggest fan favorites is the Giant Interactive Compass, along with the Banff Skywalk, which is a 1km walkway along the summit of the mountain.
