Rollerblade Launches a New Trend: Mobile Yoga

Just like Britney Spears, anything is possible when it comes to a comeback. And Rollerblade is falling in line with their newly launched form of mind-body exercise: Mobile Yoga. Inline skating has always been popular among the ski set (especially during off-season training), because it closely mimics the motions and muscles used while cutting the slopes. But yoga on skates? This pushes Downward Facing Dog to a whole new level.

Mobile Yoga is pretty much how it sounds. You perform poses while gliding along on your skates. Except this latest yoga trend involves a lot more coordination than your basic mat class. You have to focus more on balance, for one thing, and end up using a ton of core strength. And the fluidity of spinning your wheels utilizes long-lost motor skills (from back when you were slicing a road slalom on those same skates) while revving your heart rate a lot more than the typical Vinyasa class.

We’ll admit we felt a bit goofy when we tried it, but there was something nice about performing yoga at speed. Poetry in motion? Perhaps!

Rollerblade is currently developing workshops and programs with yoga instructors and skating specialists. Visit rollerblade.com for more information.
