Update: Ben Roethlisberger’s 2008 Lake Tahoe Alleged Rape Incident Won’t Be Investigated by Police

The Ski Channel reported yesterday that two NFL quarterbacks, Tony Romo and Ben Roethlisberger, were attracting lots of media (and women) at this past weekend’s  American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament just outside Heavenly Ski Resort in gorgeous Lake Tahoe.  Well, even though the event has passed and Big Ben finished tied for 30th, it doesn’t appear that the media soiree is ending anytime soon.

The cause of the attention around Roethlisberger stems from last year’s celebrity golf tournament, when he allegedly raped a woman at a Lake Tahoe hotel-casino.  Law enforcement officials have announced that they are not opening a criminal investigation into the incident until the accuser files a criminal complaint.  The woman worked as an executive VIP casino host at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, and has only filed a civil lawsuit saying he raped her in a penthouse across the street from the golf course.  She also accuses the hotel officials of creating a cover-up of the incident when she reported it the next day.  The lawsuit says she hasn’t filed a criminal complaint becuase she feared Harrah’s would side with Roethlisberger, who is a friend of the hotel-casino’s regional president.

Roethlisberger is strongly denying the accusations, as the lawsuit sees a minimum of $440,000. In the meantime, Big Ben will report to Steelers camp next week, while the NFL looks into the case.
