Update: Angelina Jolie Takes Time Away from Fighting over Children’s Food to Visit Refugees in Baghdad

The Ski Channel reported earlier today that Angelina Jolie and her beau, Brad Pitt, were arguing over their children’s diet.  But now TSC has learned that Jolie has risen above that argument and again showed us all why she is a good person.  Jolie is a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador, and she travelled with son Maddox to Baghdad and spent all day Thursday in the war-ravaged city.

During her visit, Jolie visited the suburb of Chikook, where there is a settlement for displaced families.  She met four families that were from the district of Abu Ghraib (many of us remember Abu Ghraib as the location of a US prison).  The families told her that their children could not go to school and they couldn’t afford medical treatments. They also told her that the only help they have been getting is from the UNHCR were the only people they were getting help from.

Despite all the hardships she saw, Jolie said, “This is a moment where things seem to be improving on the ground, but Iraqis need a lot of support and help to rebuild their lives.” Since April of 2008, UNHCR has provided shelter to 5,000 families and is hoping to have 20,000 homes rehabilitated by the end of this year.
