Middlebury College Ranked Fifth by U.S. News and World Report

The little college in the Vermont woods has got it going on! For starters, U.S. Ski Team ( and formerly Bode Miller’s) coach Forest Carey is an alum, as is U.S. Cross Country Ski Team coach Matt Whitcomb. Other Ski Team and Middlebury alums include Chris Waddell, Ann Battelle and Lara Rosenbaum. We’re probably leaving folks out, too.

Middlebury has long been a top runner on the academic front, and is regularly ranked in the top ten for American liberal arts colleges. This year, U.S. News and World Report ranked the ski-friendly school fifth. And when we say ski-friendly, we mean it! Middlebury is a short drive from Killington, Sugarbush, Mount Snow and Stowe resorts, and the school also sports its very own ski area, the Middlebury College Snow Bowl.

The Middlebury Ski Team rocks, and regularly dominates NCAA Division 1 races. The athletes are often neck and neck with Dartmouth and University of Vermont skiers. If that’s not enough, the Waybury Inn is just down the road. It’s the former home of the Bob Newhart show.

P.S.: Equally as cool and notable is Dartmouth College. U.S. Ski Team Dartmouth alums include Bryon Friedman and Scott Macartney. The small Ivy League school also has it’s own hill, called the Dartmouth Skiway, and runs on a quarter system so elite athletes can take their winters off, if need be.
