Utah Pool Bans Bikinis, French Pool Bans Burquinis

Just a year or two ago, a Salt Lake City area pool banned all bikinis. Women were to wear conservative one-piece suits or leave the premises. (The ban received national attention and caused a mild uproar, so suffice it to say, girls can now wear whatever they please at said pool.)

However, seems our Euro friends are way less conservative—at least when it comes to the right to bare arms.

A French pool banned a woman from wearing a “burquini,” essentially head-to-toe clothing, and said only form-fitting bathing attire is permitted. Sounds pretty cool to us.

Officials say they banned the woman from entering the pool due to hygiene standards, not out of hostility towards the Islamic tradition. Apparently, clothes carry germs.

The woman has publicly complained and declared religious discrimination. The outcome remains to be seen.
