But out of the weird news of the world library comes a good one.   28 People from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police are going to attempt to climb and then 8 of them are going to ski down Mount Everest.   Yes you read that right.

The ITBP is a federal police force that guards India’s border with China.

Speaking at a ceremony on Wednesday, Indian Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram stressed the importance of the trip. “This expedition is also vital for honing the skills in operational preparedness and also crucial for survival strategy,” he said.  Deputy Inspector General Harbhajan Singh also said the challenge would highlight environmental issues.

“Eight of us are skiers who will ski down the summit, while the rest of us will clear the garbage left behind by mountaineering teams at high altitudes.”  So eight of them will ski down and the other 20 will pick up trash left by mountaineering teams over the years.

The team hopes to have set up their first base camp at 17,500 feet by late August.  The trip will take one month to complete.
