Is there a place more diverse in natural beauty than Utah?  It is a state that has ski resorts and beautiful mountain ranges, lakes, rivers and plains.  It is as telegenic as any place in the world.  We thought it would be fun to compile a list of all the cool film and television projects that have exploited the great beauty of Utah.  For sure we missed a few, cause there is just too much going on there, but this is a great start. Feel free to add a few more in the comments section below.  Here you go!

You like Nicolas Cage?  While you’re looking a Nick, a skier in Con Air and National Treasure, you are also looking at the great ski state of Utah!  Did you know Footloose and Thelma and Louise were both shot in Utah?

What do High School Musical 1, 2 and 3 have in common besides Zack Efron and Vanessa Hudgens?  How’s about Utah, Utah and Utah?  In fact a lot of Disney original movies are shot in Utah and even the Miley Cyrus – Hannah Montana:  Best of Both Worlds Concert.

Speaking of music, quite a few bands have shot music videos in Utah including The Killers, The Offspring and Metallica.

Napoleon Dynamite hails from Utah and even Josh of Josh and Drake decided to move to Utah because nothing ever bad happens there.

The Simpsons went to Sundance in Park City and Bart actually took his girlfriend there to get married because of the marriage laws.  Speaking of marriage, HBO’s Big Love – obviously – shot in Utah.

In TV land, Utah is everywhere.  Ever watched Everwood, The Visitor, Prison Break or Touched By an Angel?  Then you were looking at Utah.

They say laughter is the best medicine, well Dumb and Dumber, National Lampoons Vacation and Fletch were all shot in the great state that calls Deer Valley, Snowbird and Alta its sons and daughters.

Is there a cooler place in the world than Ogden, Utah.  The Salomon Center, the red light district, a Mayor that chases down burglars and tackles them until the police get there – well if you are watching Three O’Clock High or Drive Me Crazy then that is not any high school you are looking at – it is Ogden High School!

So many legendary films have been shot there; you might think you are looking at the MGM library list.  Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Airport, 2001: A Space Odessy, Easy Rider and The Trial of Billy Jack – all shot in you guessed it Utah.

But would John Wayne or James Bond ever shoot there?  Not unless they were there for Rio Grande and Octopussy which were both shot in Utah!

Scary movies … try Halloween II.

Hmmm.  All the really big mountain stuff is shot in Chamonix or on Eiger right.  Well since the Eiger Sanction was shot in Utah – I don’t think so!

Well has John Travolta been there?  Um try Broken Arrow.  Yea but are there any real blockbusters?  I can’t remember did Independence Day with Will Smith do any box office?  Did that little Harrison Ford film called Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade do anything?

Tom Cruise lives in Telluride so he’s only filming in Colorado right?  Not – try on Mission Impossible filmed in Utah as well.

Johnny Depp lives in France so he’s doing all the big stuff over there right?  Except for all the Pirates of the Caribbean films – all shot in you guessed it – UTAH!!
