Wind Turbines Mean More Skiing in Massachusetts

We here at The Ski Channel are all about various forms of sustainable energy. So when we hear about power generating windmills popping up at ski resorts, we get excited. Sustainable Energy Developments Incorporated, based out of Rochester New York, is working on a $3 million wind power project to be put  up in the Berkshire East Ski Area in Charlemont, Massachusetts. It should be completed next year. James R. Schaefer, co-owner of Berkshire, commented on the necessity of the windmills to generate power for the snowmaking machines. ”We need to make more snow in order to be competitive,” Schaefer said. “We can’t afford energy prices where they are about to go.” Yay to more snow, and yay to getting that snow from a sustainable source!
