U.S. Ski Team Athletes Emily Cook and Jeret ‘Speedy’ Peterson Rappel Down Building for Special Olympics Fundraiser

U.S. Freestylers Emily Cook and Speedy Peterson are used to high-flying flips and daredevil feats. Speedy, in fact, has completed (and landed) quadruple-twisting triple flips. But this week the Olympians and Freestyle Aerials World Cup winners went down instead of up, and rappelled down a 200-foot building in Salt Lake City, as part of a fundraiser for the Special Olympics. The athletes were only connected to their life force by a rope, and when Speedy got half-way down the side of the Grand America Hotel, he stopped and hung upside down for a little while, to take in the view.

Special Olympics Utah wanted to set up something ‘scary’ for the event, to shine light on the bravery of Special Olympians and their superhuman feats. Both Cook and Peterson were thrilled to take part.
