The Ski Train has been an institution for those who live in Denver and use it to travel to Winter Park to enjoy the resort’s skiing and snowboarding runs. However, this past April, Phil Anschutz’s company said it was selling the Ski Train’s cars to a Canadian railroad operator, thus ending the 69-year run of the Train.  But, there is possibly good news coming, as a business team, including Iowa Pacific Holdings, is looking to take over the Ski Train Operation.  Iowa Pacific operates tourist trains in southern Colorado and shortline freight railroads in several states.  Union Pacific Railroad, which Anschutz is the largest shareholder of,  currently owns the Ski Train, and Iowa Pacific would need an agreement with them in in order to start the train back up.
