Women Ski Jumpers’ Olympic Bid Denied Again by IOC President Rogge

IOC President Jacques Rogge once again denied an appeal by 14 elite women ski jumpers fighting for inclusion in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

The letter from Rogge is below, but the gist is the same as it has always been in this long, protracted fight.  Rogge (and the IOC) do not believe the women jumpers are up to par yet.  “…the reason why we took the decision not to include women’s ski jumping was made strictly on a technical basis and absolutely not on gender grounds…”

Considering the considerable talents of the 14 women who petitioned the IOC President, that assessment will be an extremely bitter pill to swallow for Lindsey Van and her peers.
