This coming season, Steamboat Springs, Colorado is undergoing a transformation in the form of $2.5 million in on-mountain improvements. But, what about this cruddy economy, you might ask? I thought the ski industry was going to be in a world of hurt this season, you might think. Well, Chris Diamond, the president Chief Operating Officer of the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation had this to say in response: “Despite market conditions, this resort community continues to focus on the guest experience, making significant investments on the resort’s infrastructure. The highly anticipated on-mountain momentum, more than $30 million in the past four years, augments $20 million in completed and planned public revitalization projects, complemented by an array of private developments sweeping the mountain village, literally transforming the overall mountain village experience.” That’s some serious cash. Some of the upgrades to the area include the opening of One Steamboat Place, a high-end luxury living area. This is from their website: “As the gateway to the mountain, One Steamboat Place in Steamboat Springs promises to be a thriving, exciting place to live year-round, particularly as the Mountain Village undergoes a dramatic and long-awaited change. New bridge crossings, gathering places along the newly exposed creek, large lawn areas, improved mountain bike trails and a sidewalk to connect Ski Time Square to the Gondola Transportation Center are all part of the most exciting redevelopment plan the community has embarked on in 40 years. And at its very heart, setting the tone as the destination’s landmark property, One Steamboat Place, located at the gondola, a collection of homes unlike anything Steamboat has ever seen. These masterfully appointed luxury slopeside residences are an unprecedented opportunity to kick up your heels and make your home in the West’s most colorful town”. Who’ll be the first celebrity to buy a place there??

Some of the other new features to the ski area include expanding the Kid’s Vacation Center, improving the snowmaking system, opening the Wildhorse Gondola (February 2010), and opening other residence areas like Edgemont and Trailhead Lodge. Don’t pass up an opportunity to head out to Steamboat Springs this season!
