Mount Wilson Observatory Battles Station Fire for Another Long Night

It’s an apocalyptic skyline beyond the skyscrapers of downtown Los Angeles.  Fueled by triple digit temperatures and 40-year-old timber and brush, the massive Station Fire of the Angeles National Forest had officials speaking in religious terms.

“It’s burning everywhere,” U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Dianne Cahir said. “When it gets into canyons that haven’t burned in numerous years, it takes off. If you have any insight into the good Lord upstairs, put in a request.”

The above photo is from the Mount Wilson Observatory webcam at 7:34pm.  The TV antennas are still standing, as is the historical landmark of the century old Mount Wilson Observatory.  Thought to be a goner last night, it will once again be a long night for the brave firefighters battling the march of flames.
