U.S. Ski Team Athlete Cody Marshall Back in Action

Less than two months after a traumatic head injury, U.S. Ski Team slalom star is back in action in Park City! Yesterday, Marshall reported to the Center of Excellence, the official training center for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Teams.

Training so far is low-key, but Marshall’s rapid progress has been nothing short of amazing. Family friend Draven Gagnon has been heading up Marshall’s recovery program, and has even scheduled ‘play dates,’ with friends—two folks at a time at set times each day. The idea is to limit over-stimulation and keep the healing on track.

U.S. Ski Team athletes Hailey Duke and Jess Kelley jumped at the chance for the first social slot, and went with Marshall to Color Me Mine, a paint-your-own-pottery shop in Park City. “He wasn’t that into it at first,” Gagnon wrote on Marshall’s blog, ThinkCody.com. “I think he had more fun with us than he would like to admit. He was stoked on his final product.”

As for training, Marshall plans to continue taking it day by day. “I’m not setting any timetables,” Marshall said. “Every day is a new step and that’s how I’m going to take it. So much of me wants to push it, but I know how much time everything is going to take. It’s really all about small steps each day and working hard. It’s what I have to do.”

If his amazing progress toward recovery is any indication, it won’t be long before Marshall’s ‘small steps’ add up to some serious big results.
