According to court documents from his trial in 1977, alleged kidnapper of South Lake Tahoe girl Jaycee Lee Dugard Phillip Garrido used similar tactics and had a pattern of behavior that he used in two different crimes.  He was first convicted of kidnapping and rape in 1976, and the documents from that trial showed Garrido’s struggle with drugs and his efforts to control his sexual obsessions.

When he kidnapped and raped 25 year-old Katie Callaway Hall in 1976, Garrido methodically planned his crime.  He had a space set up like a stage in the warehouse where he took Hall, and had a mattress set up and also a projector.  In the trial, Garrido admitted that he had an obsession with sexual bondage and captivity.  He was eventually paroled after serving a little over 10 years of his 50 year sentence, and his next victim would be Dugard, who he held in a backyard compound for over 18 years.
