Top World Cup skier Peter Fill will miss the early part of the 2009/2010 ski season. The Italian speed specialist recently underwent surgery to repair a severe soft-tissue injury he sustained while training in Argentina. Fill fell while skiing, and lacerated an abdominal tendon.

Fill traveled to Turku, Finland, to be treated by top surgeon Sakari Orawa, a sports-medicine specialist and FIS consultant. Officials report that the surgery went well, and we’ll of course post further updates on Fill’s condition.

The 2009 World Championship Super-G silver medalist and Lake Louise downhill winner is expected to return to snow before the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, and all remain hopeful that he’ll be in top form.
