Melanie Griffith’s Ski Accident Turned Addiction Announced on Ellen Degeneres

Today, Antonio Banderas came clean with the truth regarding his wife, Melanie Griffith.

“She had a crash skiing in Aspen a year-and-a-half ago and she went through three operations in her knee. She [was] obligated to use narcotics. In March, she came to me and said, ‘I’m feeling a little bit weak in my determination for this,’” he explained. “So the whole entire family is supporting her and I am supporting her and at this particular time more than ever. I’m very proud of her.”

Ms. Griffith is currently in rehab battling her addiction.  Both Griffith and Banderas hope this story and their willingness to be open will inspire those dealing with substance abuse.  As many mountain enthusiasts can relate to the torment and uphill battle of mountain sports-related injuries, The Ski Channel wishes Ms. Griffith the best of luck and we hope to see her back on the slopes one day.

This was not the only major annoucement on the Ellen DeGeneres Show today.  Ellen DeGeneres is taking the place of Paula Abdul, as the new “American Idol” judge.  Speaking of Ellen DeGeneres, did you catch when Simon Dumont charmed Ellen?  Back in April 2008, Simon Dumont was a guest on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.  Check it out here.
