Freeskiing World Tour First Stop in Chile Video Highlights, Chapo Diaz Wins on McConkey’s Run

A fitting tribute for Shane McConkey as La Parva’s unnamed run was dubbed McConkey’s prior to the kick-off and first stop of the Freeskiing World Tour (FWT), The North Face South American Freeskiing Championships

Chopo Diaz let everyone know whose house it was, beating 2009 FWT champion Julien Lopez.  “It was an honor to have the entire international freeskiing community at my home mountain,” said Diaz. “I’m honored to be champion.”

Rounding out the podium was Romain Belloz of Switzerland.

On the ladies side, American Jacqui Edgerly wins her first comp ever, besting Jess McMillan the 2007 FWT champ.

Lopez also earned the coveted Sickbird award, given to the skier who truly goes above and beyond, leaving it all out there.  The spirit award is in honor of the late Tobias Lee and is the most coveted award on the FWT.  So Lopez gets the double-down blackjack, winning both the first stop and the Sickbird award.
