The wife and co-suspect of alleged kidnapper Phillip Garrido has spoken out on her action with her husband and why they chose to abduct South Lake Tahoe resident Jaycee Lee Dugard in 1991.  Nancy Garrido told investigators that Dugard was picked during a ‘child shopping’ trip because Phillip Garrido thought she was ‘cute.’  U.S. attorney Michael Cardoza says that Nancy Garrido has revealed more details, and in particular, how they snatched her and why they took her when they did.

When he first saw Dugard, Garrido was with his wife and said, “She’s cute, but she’s with the other kids.  Let’s come back later and get her.”  In addition, Cardoza says that the Garridos were bundled Dugard into their car as she walked to the bus stop alone.  Both Phillip and Nancy Garrido have pleaded not guilty to 29 felony counts including kidnapping, rape, and false imprisonment.
