Imagine knowing that one of your classmates in elementary school was kidnapped on her way to her bus stop and not seen or heard from for over 18 years.  This was the case in South Lake Tahoe at Meyers Elementary School when Jaycee Lee Dugard was abducted in 1991.  According to one of her classmates, Missy McBride, “Everybody was scared, and the parents were even more scared than the kids.”  With Dugard’s recovery a few weeks ago, many of her classmates like McBride had a flood of memories.

Kristina Rhoden, who was one of Dugard’s classmates in fifth grade, said she had an “overflow of fear” when school was locked down and year-end activities were cancelled following Dugard’s kidnapping.  In addition, Rhoden says, “We just couldn’t believe that someone we knew was kidnapped, that no one was really safe.”  Since Dugard’s release from captivity, she has been with her family at an undisclosed location in the Bay Area.  Many reports have said that she will make a TV appearance on the “Oprah Show” in December.
