Mt Waterman Ski Area Station Fire Photos

A moment to pause and give a big sigh of relief.  Whew!

It was a close call for Mount Waterman last week.  But, as Mount Waterman’s Rick Metcalf told the Ski Channel, “Waterman has been saved!”

What and who started the Station Fire is now being investigated near Mile Marker 29 of Angeles Crest Highway above La Canada, CA.  That’s just before the legendary Newcomb Ranch and 29 mile markers from Mount Waterman Ski Area.  Both the popular dining spot and the historical ski are were built by Lynn Newcomb Sr.  It was Newcomb Sr. and his son Lynn Newcomb Jr. who built the first rope town on Mount Waterman back in 1939!

After some lean years, as will happen with a ski area in So-Cal solely dependent on Mother Nature, Waterman has escaped LA County’s biggest fire on record, and now looks forward to a big El Nino year.  El Nino for So-Cal is a big wheels at Xmas for a 5-year-old.  It’s huge.
