In Spite of Economy, Ski Industry Companies Still Coming Up with Cash

In spite of last year’s economic downturn, certain ski industry companies are still able to pony up the dough.

Vonn recently signed with Head, the same company Bode Miller skied on last season. In fact, the top three women in the world (including Vonn’s pal Maria Reisch and Swede Anja Paerson) all now have contracts with Head. Signing Paerson was a smart move on Head’s part, as the superstar skier announced her pending retirement after the 2009/2010 ski season.

The French company Vuarnet is also running strong, and recently signed with the Italian Ski Team as a new major sponsor. Vuarnet also supplies the French Team. (Italy formerly was with Fila.)

In spite of its French connection, Vuarnet is familiar territory for the Italians, as Jean Vuarnet, the company’s founder served as the technical director for the Italian Ski Team until 1972.
