Paralympic Skier Chris Waddell in Africa and Set to Make History

Former U.S. Adaptive Ski Team member Chris Waddell is an extraordinary athlete–having won several World Championship and Paralympic medals, and now he’s set to make history again. Waddell and his crew have arrived in Africa, and are set to begin their ascent of Mt. Kilimanjaro on Thursday, September 24.

When Waddell succeeds in reaching the summit, he will become the first paraplegic to ever climb Kili unassisted. (Waddell is also scheduled to summit Kili on September 28—his birthday.)

As if a world record and new standard for disabled citizens isn’t enough, Waddell plans to deliver wheel chairs to those in need before he leaves Tanzania.

Waddell reports that so far all is well, and that everyone arrived safely. Some of their gear didn’t make it, however, yet it’s on its way.
