Outdoor Activity Participation Numbers Blow The Roof Off!

Numerous sources including the recent Outdoor Recreation Participation Report point to a growing interest in outdoor activities.  In the Outdoor Recreation Participation Report conducted by Synovate, a total of 15,013 individual and 26,487 households were surveyed and produced some of these highlights.

  • Trail Running participation up 15.2%
  • Off Road Triathalons participation up 24.6%
  • Adventure Racing participation up 31.8%
  • Climbing participation up 5.6%
  • Ice Climbing participation up 8.5%
  • Cross Country Skiing participation up 9%
  • Snowboarding participation up 4.6%
  • Snowshoeing participation up 21.8%
  • Telemark Skiing participation up 22.3%
  • Kayaking participation up 23.1%
  • Surfing participation up 18.2%

“American’s are getting out and enjoying the outdoors space and participating in outdoor activities,” said John Muir President of the TIA.  “You will likely see this trend continue for some time.”

Many of these catagories are seeing double digit growth year after year.  And categories like snowboard participation have seen decades of solid growth.
