TGR, Matchstick, Level 1, Poor Boyz, Warren Miller, these are some of the big names in the ski film world.  Nick Waggoner and his Sweetgrass Productions got next.

The boundaries of genre are hard to break free from.  The ski film has become a hardened formula with big mountains, bigger tricks, and Biggie Smalls’ music.

Surveying the landscape, Waggoner must have noticed something missing: the spiritual side of sliding down a mountain.  The true essence and the soul of winter sports come shining through on Sweetgrass’ first film, Hand Cut.

Now with his sophomore effort, Waggoner continues to hone his niche while offering up stupefying great cinematography.  The success of Hand Cut allowed for more time and resources to be spent on Signatures.  The results?  Universal acclaim for a powerful new voice and perspective on the ski/snowboard/tele scene.  See for yourself as Signatures tours the U.S., Canada, and Japan.  Click here for tour dates.

We talked with Nick Waggonner from his office in Colorado to discover how this New York City kid found the soul of skiing and put it up on the big screen.
