Whistler Will Generate Its Own Electricity

Hurrah for self-sustainability! Whistler is the latest ski resort among many to begin taking positive steps in the direction of eco-conservatism. This is what we like to see. Starting at the end of December, Whistler will unveil their Hydro Electric System. This past summer, workers created a pipeline a little over 2 miles long from the Fitzsimmons Creek to the powerhouse by the Whistler Sliding Center. The water from the creek will be used to generate 33 gigawatt hours of electricity every year. That’s enough electricity to power the entire resort’s operations, including 270 snowguns, 38 ski lifts and 17 restaurants, among other facilities. Praise The Fitzsimmons Creek Renewable Energy Project!!
