Opening day announcements are much like early season college football polls.  They tend not to mean a whole hell heck of a lot.  Could be later, could be sooner.  Only Mother Nature has the clearance to schedule opening days.  Especially considering what El Nino means.

What does it mean you ask?  Historically, it has meant very cold temps in the Northeast, hence Sunday River firing up the snow guns a month early.  It’s also been good news for for California ski resortsMammoth has averaged 140% its average snow pack in El Nino years.

So allow these dates to serve their purpose.  News to build anticipation, and to start getting psyched when you hear that 20″ of snow is falling on Snowbird right now!  Do you know where your skis are?
