Teen who drove into a New Hampshire ski shop re-arrested

Mercer Smith, the Portsmouth, NC teen who was arrested in June for driving into Putnam’s Ski & Snowboard shop while intoxicated was arrested again this week for allegedly being in unlawful possession of alcohol and marijuana, resisting arrest, and littering. of a 12 oz Bud Light can.  According to Durham Police Chief Dave Kurz, Smith was drinking with 5 other underage individuals, and when asked by an officer for identification, “he turned around and ran.”  After a foot pursuit, Smith was arrested and during a search he was found to be in possession of marijuana.

According to Durham Police, “Smith was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated alleging he caused serious bodily injury — a broken hip bone — to one of the passengers. Another aggravated DWI charge alleges he drove while intoxicated causing a second passenger to suffer a “serious head injury.” A third aggravated DWI charge alleges Smith was driving drunk when he caused his own “serious” facial lacerations and a fourth alleges he exceeded the speed limit while drunken driving.

A DWI charge alleges Smith was driving while intoxicated on Lang Road and a reckless operation charge alleges he drove through a stop sign at the end of that road, crossed Lafayette Road and crashed into the sports shop. A ninth charge is a felony count of criminal mischief alleging over $1,000 in damage to the Lafayette Road sports shop.”
