As TSC reported earlier today, alleged kidnapper Phillip Garrido sent a letter to the KRCA 3 news station in Sacramento, California.  The letter asked reporter Walt Gray to contact his victim, South Lake Tahoe girl Jaycee Lee Dugard, “at the earliest possible date.”  Garrido claims that Dugard’s “free speech rights are being violated, and she was “repeatedly denied access to have an attorney present during questioning.”

After receiving the letter, Gray went to the El Dorado County Jail to try and talk to Garrido.  Garrido told the staff at the jail that he would not talk to Gray unless his attorney was present.  Garrido’s public defender, Susan Gellman, went to the jail after she was told that Gray was trying to talk to Garrido.  Gellman said she had told Garrido before not to contact the media.
