With temperatures dropping and snow flurries imminent, the winter season is poised to get underway December 15, 2009, at The Lodge and Spa at Three Forks Ranch  a swank mountain retreat located along the Colorado/Wyoming border in the Little Snake River Valley and an idyllic setting for winter recreation.

Visitors to the craftsman-style lodge and spa, situated on a working cattle ranch spanning 200,000 acres, have access to an array of activitiesincluded in all-inclusive winter packages offered by Three Forks at special rates, as well as skilled guides to help guests traverse and explore this spectacular terrain. Highlights include:

Cross-Country Skiing: A favorite activity for winter visitors to Three Forks Ranch, cross-country skiing offers a combination of wide-groomed trails and backcountry experiences. With 50 kilometers of trails, skiers glide through the alpine forests and take in exhilarating views, all while experiencing a vigorous workout. Trained experts will guide guests through this unspoiled mountain paradise.

Downhill Skiing: Three Forks Ranch provides complimentary transportation to Steamboat Springs – just 75 minutes away and known for world-class skiing. Upon request, guests can be personally driven by a Three Forks guide, who will expedite lift transportation and equipment rental, and offer instruction.

Snowshoeing: Those with an adventurous spirit can deviate from the groomed trails and take a step back into the history of the Sierra Madres  a time when snowshoes were the means of transportation for mountain men and trappers.

Snowmobiling: Three Forks Ranch is sheer Nirvana for snowmobilers, with mile after mile of open powder. All rides are guided and snowmobilers traverse the backcountry on safe, environmentally sound four-cycle vehicles.

Dog Sledding: With a little instruction and lots of encouragement, guests can guide a team of dogs along the South Fork of the Little Snake River. This two- to three-hour adventure allows visitors to witness some of the most spectacular scenery at the ranch.

Sleigh Rides: A pair of strapping Belgian Quarter Horses – Jack and Jill – pull an open sleigh piled with warm furs and stocked with hot toddies. Day or evening pre-dinner rides for one or two couples are offered.

After a long day of fun-filled winter activities, Three Forks Ranch’s magnificent 35,000-square-foot lodge is a welcoming haven – with its beautifully appointed guest rooms, a luxurious spa and a warm, inviting lobby anchored by dual fireplaces.
