Exclusive Ski Town of Gstaad weighs in on Roman Polanski

“Exclusive” and “ski resort” may not have been first put together in Gstaad, Switzerland, but never have the two fit so perfectly together.  It’s number one on our list of top 10 Celebrity Ski Towns.  From the king of acting, Peter Sellers, to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, Gstaad has hosted the most famous of the famous.

Gstaad is (was?) also the second home for Roman Polanski.  While Hollywood tentatively dips its tow into the Free Polanski pool, Gstaad residents have come out in full support of the one-time fugitive, now jail cell resident in Zurich.

In a Times Online article, residents of Gstaad remain “fiercely loyal” to Polanski.

“I pray that he comes back to Gstaad,” said Ruth Fielder, 62, who was born in the village and works in the corner shop just down the road from Polanski’s chalet. “He is a very nice man, he comes here every morning to get fresh bread and he is always smiling,” she said. “I was very upset when I heard he had been arrested. Here everybody says it is not right what they have done. After 30 years they have to stop.”
