Susan Gellman, the public defender who has been appointed the attorney for alleged kidnapper Phillip Garrido, spoke to the media on Thursday.  Gellman has maintained relatively quiet, and had refused all media requests for interviews.  The case has drawn attention all over the world, as Garrido is charged with kidnapping and raping South Lake Tahoe girl Jaycee Lee Dugard, and holding her captive in his backyard for over 18 years.

Gellman told KCRA 3 in Sacramento that “there are some very sensitive issues in this case and they need to be explored, and those are going to take some time.  We are really very early in the case, and at this point, it’s just…not a good idea for anybody to speak to to him.  It’s not really — it’s not right.”  Garrido sent a letter to KCRA this week, saying that he believed Dugard’s rights had been violated.  He is currently at the El Dorado County Jail awaiting his next court appearance.
