The case of South Lake Tahoe girl Jaycee Lee Dugard’s escape from capti

vity after 18 years has given new hope to those are who still searching for their missing loved ones in the Northern California and Reno areas.  Dugard was allegedly kidnapped by Phillip and Nancy Garrido, who snatched her while she was at her bus stop in South Lake Tahoe.  Investigators are reviewing cases from 1976, when Garrido was paroled for a previous sexual assault conviction, to the several years after.

Jennifer and Charles Chia, ages 6 and 7, were murdered on their walk to school in 1989, and their bodies were found about 60 miles northwest of Reno.  Another unsolved case is that of Monica DaSilva, who was kidnapped from her bedroom in 1990, and her remains were later found east of Reno.  According to the Nevada Department of Public Safety, all police agencies in the Reno-Tahoe area are looking at previous unsolved kidnapping cases for any links to the Garridos.
