Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Mountain resort will have a few new features for skiers to enjoy this season. The changes include “a new snow tubing lift, upgrades to overall food quality and variety, improved snow surfaces, and new ski and snowboard school programs.”  Working in conjunction with the United States Forest Service, Heavenly will also make advances in “selective trail enhancement projects.”  According to the press release, “these projects annually identify key trails for treatment by widening pinch-points and lowering the height of obstacles on trails.

A number of Heavenly’s runs were widened, including Meteor, Jackpot and Canyon, Sky Chute, and Otto’s Chute.  The resort also “removed obstacles from California trail” which reduces the amount of snow needed to maintain the trail.  Heavenly has purchased three new grooming machines to assist in the maintenance of their trails.  Snowmaking has been increased to “provide early-season access for sightseers as well as skiers and snowboarders looking for non-ski activities.  Heavenly’s 2009-2010 season opens on November 20th.
