Ski town Wrightwood evacuated due to fire.

The people of town of Wrightwood were ordered to evacuate their homes over the weekend as San Bernardino county firefighters struggle to gain control of the Sheep fire, which has consumed 3,500 acres.  According to firefighters at the scene, “Some 4,000 residents, practically the entire population of Wrightwood, are now under mandatory evacuations.”

The fire broke out at 2pm on Saturday in the northwest corner of Lytle Creek, a small town in north San Bernardino county that is 75 miles northwest of Palm Springs, CA.  As of noon pacific time on Sunday the fire was reportedly only 10 percent contained.  According to San Bernardino firefighters, “Thirteen hand crews, 72 engines and four dozers have been sent to the fire. Ten helicopters and nine air tankers have been assigned to the fire but, as of 10:30 a.m., remained grounded due to high winds and low visibility.”
