Who’s your favorite to win gold medals in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics? Lindsey Vonn? Bode Miller? Canada Men’s Hockey Team (current odds at 2.2)? You can put your money where your mouth is by placing bets with various bookmakers. But for the 2010 Winter Olympics, the IOC will implement a new system to monitor athletes and officials to combat illegal betting. A massive rise in the quantity of bets placed after the 2004 Olympics prompted the new monitoring system to help ensure legal bets that would not affect the outcome of any sports. International Sports Monitoring has been charged with the task of overseeing wagers on the games. Over 400 bookmakers will submit betting information to ISM who will flag any anomalies and investigate.
