Sheep fire gains no ground on Wrightwood and Mountain High Resort

Wrightwood residents remain under mandatory evacuation late Monday night.  The Sheep fire now stands at 7,824 acres and is only 30% contained.  Calm winds and colder temps have aided the 1700+ firefighters battling the blaze.  LA County Fire Deparment spokesman Mark Whaling told the Press Enterprise, “The fire hardly gained any ground.”

Still, firefighters were battling brush that had not burned in 60 years.  No flames have been spotted along Lone Pine Canyon road just outside of Wrightwood.

Roads to Lytle Creek, where the fire started, were reopened for residents only.

Officials have not offered a timeline as to when residents of Wrightwood, home to Mountain High Resort, may be able to return.
